The Values of Better Together

  • We respond to Jesus’ Great Commission by committing ourselves, first and foremost, to engaging our world with the good news of God’s love. Rather than allowing disagreements over issues that do not determine our salvation to pull us off our missional course, we commit to winsomely share the Gospel with all who will hear. (John 3:16; Matthew 28:18-20)

  • We believe that the Bible invites us into a generous posture for the purpose of discipleship. Rather than giving into division, we are committed to living in a generous space together so that the fruit of the Spirit can grow. We view potential tension as a tool used by the Holy Spirit to further develop within us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)

  • We celebrate the fact that Jesus calls his church to be one as he and the Father are one and we treasure our denomination of origin (the Christian Reformed Church of North America and beyond). Therefore, we refuse to give in to the polarizing divisions of the world around us, rather we commit ourselves to continuing to meet together as we encourage one another in seeking unity even amidst potential disagreement. (John 17; Hebrews 10:24-25)

  • We give thanks that God uses the context of our relationships to form and shape us evermore into his likeness. Therefore, we reject any prioritization of secular individualism, schismatic divisions, and actions that sever relationships over matters that do not determine our salvation. Instead, we commit to growing in relationship with each other so that we may better live into Jesus’ greatest commandments to love God and love one another. (Matthew 22:37-40)
